Our Story

How it started

It started with frustration — the best businesses usually do. I was away from Tanzania when I wanted to do something simple: send a gift to my family in Dar es Salaam. Not anything complicated. Just something to let them know I was thinking of them. What followed was a lesson in how difficult that simple thing actually was. Who do I call? How do I pay? Will it actually arrive? Is it going to look anything like what I ordered? After going through that one too many times, I thought — there has to be a better way to do this. That was Giiftee. Not a grand plan, just a real problem I wanted to solve. And slowly, with a lot of learning along the way, it became something I am genuinely proud of — an online gifting platform built specifically for Dar es Salaam, for the friends, family and people who call this city home. There is something deeply satisfying about building something here, for here. For the aunty celebrating her birthday in Mikocheni. For the colleague whose baby just arrived in Upanga. For the friend in London who wants to surprise someone back home but doesn't know how. Every order we get reminds me that this thing is actually working — and that keeps me going more than anything else.

We are still in the early chapters of this story.
Right now we are focused on being the best gifting service in Dar es Salaam — getting every order right, building trust with every customer and continuously improving what we offer. But our vision is bigger than one city.
We are building towards a Tanzania where anyone, anywhere can send a gift with a single click. From Arusha to Zanzibar, from Dodoma to Tanga — wherever you are in Tanzania, and wherever your loved ones are, Giiftee will be there.
There is so much more to come — more products, more cities, a more seamless experience at every step. We are just getting started.

I'll be honest — I didn't expect to feel this way about a gifting business. But there is something about building in TZ, for people I know and love and for this city, that just hits differently. Dar es Salaam is home. The people ordering on Giiftee are people like my family, my friends, my community. When someone messages us to say their mum burst into tears when the flowers arrived, or that their partner had no idea and was completely shocked — I read those messages more than once. 

We are not a big company (not yet). We are a small team that genuinely cares about getting your order right. We make mistakes sometimes and we fix them. We are figuring things out as we go, like every small business does. But the one thing that has never changed is how much we care about the people on the other end of every delivery.
